Om evenemanget

Join the Springfield Preservation and Revitalization Council (SPAR) for an enlightening Historic Springfield TreeWalks focused on Climate-Responsive Architecture! 🌿 This engaging walking tour will lead you through the Springfield Historic District, showcasing how historic buildings were designed to resonate with Florida’s unique environment.

During this outdoor program, expert guide Michael Montoya, lecturer from the University of Florida School of Architecture and Chair of the Jacksonville Historic Preservation Commission, will illuminate how early builders utilized shade, ventilation, orientation, and natural materials to create comfortable living spaces without modern air conditioning. 🏡

As you stroll, you’ll explore distinctive historic homes and architectural details that highlight the climate-conscious design principles of Northeast Florida. Discover how tree canopies, porches, windows, rooflines, and smart street layouts collectively foster cooler, more livable neighborhoods. 🌳

In light of rising temperatures and environmental challenges facing Florida communities, this tour provides valuable insight into how traditional design strategies can influence sustainable approaches in our modern context. Participants will leave with a renewed appreciation for the environmental wisdom embedded within Springfield’s architectural legacy. 🌍

Plus, each tour will feature ASL interpretation for accessibility. This program is made possible by a grant from Florida Humanities with generous support from The Mosaic Company.
