There is always something to celebrate with Janáček! This year, we will celebrate his 172nd birthday a little early while also commemorating the 100th anniversary of the world premiere of Sinfonietta, Janáček's most famous orchestral work. On Tuesday, June 23, 2026, a fun game for children, a concert on the theatre steps, birthday greetings with cake, and an open-air screening will take place in front of the Janáček Theatre. You can also join a guided walk in Janáček's footsteps.

The morning programme is intended for children and will take place in front of the Janáček Theatre and in the adjacent park below. From 4:00 p.m., you can join a guided walk in the Master's footsteps as part of the summer AutenTIC tours (tickets available here). From 6:00 p.m., the programme continues on the piazzetta. Concerts on the steps will feature Lenka Kuželová, David Paša and Josef Klíč. At 7:00 p.m., there will be a birthday toast and cake-cutting ceremony, followed at 7:30 p.m. by the highlight of the celebration – an evening open-air screening as part of Janáček's summer party. You can look forward to a recording of Jiří Kylián's legendary choreography to Janáček's centennial Sinfonietta, performed by the Nederlands Dans Theater, followed by Káťa Kabanová from the 2022 Salzburg Festival, directed by Barrie Kosky and conducted by Jakub Hrůša.

The event is organized by the Janáček Brno Festival (Janáček Opera of the National Theatre Brno) and TIC BRNO.

The programme on the piazzetta is free of charge. The event will take place only in good weather.
