💬 What is Man Down? We aim to help reduce the number of male suicides and break the stigma surrounding mental health by providing men with a safe space to discuss their feelings and emotions. Our informal, free-to-attend talking group meetings are held every two weeks across the UK.
💬 What happens at Man Down? Every second Monday at 17:00, men are invited to join our supportive talking group to discuss mental health. Through sharing and listening, we work together to dismantle the stigma related to emotional conversations. All participants agree to keep the discussions confidential and non-judgmental, ensuring a secure atmosphere. Social meet-ups and an online peer support group are also available for attendees of the in-person meetings.
💬 How does the evening begin? Simply arrive between 16:45 and 17:00. You will be greeted by our facilitators and introduced to fellow participants. We understand it can be challenging to enter a new environment, but every attendee shares a similar experience and will make you feel welcome!
💬 How does the meeting play out? The meeting starts at 17:00 with an introduction from the facilitator about Man Down, highlighting our social activities and online community options. The floor will then open for discussion in a safe, confidential space.
💬 Do I have to talk/share my experience? Not at all! Your participation is entirely voluntary. You can listen and absorb as much as you need. If, after joining us a few times, you feel inclined to share, we welcome that too.
💬 Do I need to notify you about attending? No, just show up!
💬 Is there a cost to attend? No, attendance is completely free thanks to the efforts of our fundraising supporters and grants that help cover all costs.
💬 What refreshments are available? We provide complimentary tea, coffee, and water for all attendees.
💬 Does Man Down offer professional counseling? While we strive to reduce male suicides and break stigma through sharing, our facilitators are volunteers and not psychological professionals. We won’t provide specific treatment recommendations, but we can connect you with available services across the UK.
💬 Feeling overwhelmed? If you're facing mental health challenges, we encourage you to seek professional support. Many participants find talking in our group brings clarity, camaraderie, and reassurance that they’re not alone.
💬 Nervous about attending? It's normal to feel anxious about new experiences. Many attendees share that stepping through the door can be the hardest part. We’ll be here when you’re ready! 🙌
