The Shed Presents: HUMAN 🌌

The Shed is thrilled to showcase HUMAN, one of four groundbreaking performance pieces created by the talented artists from the fourth cohort of Open Call, The Shed’s early-career commissioning initiative.

“At the bottom of the ocean where the darkness meets the stars, the Octopus will tell the story of a thing once called the HUMAN being…” 🐙

In a world where humanity has become extinct, the Octopus faces an extraordinary dilemma:
Will it sacrifice one of its three hearts to forge a new, more compassionate human being?
Are we prepared to grant humanity a second chance?

Drawing inspiration from rich African diasporic storytelling traditions and the soulful sounds of blues, jazz, and soul, HUMAN delves into crucial themes surrounding connection, human rights, ancestral memory, climate change, and our collective responsibility. It challenges the audience to reflect on what it truly means to be human in an era of deep ethical uncertainty. 🤔💔

🌟 PUBLIC PROGRAM: Puppet-Making Workshop 🎭

When?
Before each performance of HUMAN, join us for a unique puppet-making workshop using trash and upcycled materials!
Workshop Times:

• July 10 at 6 pm
• July 11 at 12:30 pm and 6 pm

  In The Tisch Skylights (Level 8)

Participants will bring their puppet creations to life in a delightful procession leading audiences through The Shed to The Griffin Theater—crossing a ritual threshold into a world devoid of humans.
