Opening Reception: Dindga McCannon

Fridman Gallery is pleased to host the opening reception for Dindga McCannon's second solo exhibition. The exhibition, titled Yesterday and Today, features a diverse collection of works created from the 1970s to the present.

Dindga McCannon, born and raised in Harlem, developed as an artist and young mother during the emergence of feminist art and the civil rights movement. She began her artistic journey by studying under renowned artists such as Jacob Lawrence, Charles Alston, Richard Mayhew, and Al Loving at the Art Students League of New York, as well as with Robert Blackburn at the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop.

A prominent figure within the influential African-American art collective Weusi, Dindga also co-founded Where We At, the first African-American women artist collective, alongside Faith Ringgold and Kay Brown. Throughout her career, Dindga has forged a path for her artistic pursuits while nurturing a support network for future generations of Black artists.
