In late September, Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit the US. We are urging the State Department to begin negotiations on an international treaty to pause AI development.

The development of artificial intelligence threatens our society and could lead to mass unemployment, catastrophic accidents, and even human extinction. Scientists, politicians, and business leaders agree that "Mitigating the risk of extinction from AI should be a global priority alongside other societal-scale risks such as pandemics and nuclear war."
