🎓 Join us for the public defence of Felicita Brusoni's PhD thesis: “A Voice Beyond the Edge”!

Felicita, a PhD candidate at Malmö Academy of Music, explores new fields in the realm of the extra-normal voice. This research investigates how the role of the contemporary music singer can be redefined through the concept of the Extended Singer.

The project emerges from a sustained artistic practice that began with operatic vocal training and evolved into a critical engagement with its aesthetic and technical foundations. Rather than dismissing the Western classical tradition, it examines the limits it imposes, particularly concerning authorship, technique, and stylistic identity.

Over recent decades, post-Darmstadtian contemporary music has served as a laboratory for expanding vocal practice. Through collaborations with composers, experimentation with diverse vocal techniques, and long-term performative inquiry, the singer's role has transitioned from interpreter to co-creator and negotiator of meaning. This practical development forms the experiential basis of the research.
