Small Things: Beading Stories

Join artist Catherine Blackburn for a hands-on beading workshop inspired by her Aboriginal Classics art series, exploring themes of identity, language, and story. Participants will learn to bead on an unconventional medium—teabags—as story-holders, creating a tactile and meditative experience.

Workshop Details:

• Facilitator: Catherine Blackburn, a member of the English River First Nation (Dënesųłinë́), is a multidisciplinary artist and jeweller. Her work addresses Canada's colonial past through personal narratives, focusing on Indigenous sovereignty, decolonization, and representation.
• Exhibitions: Catherine has showcased her work in notable events such as the Santa Fe Haute Couture Fashion Show and Vancouver Indigenous Fashion Week, and has received several awards, including the Eitlejorg 2021 Fellowship.

Small Things: Tea, Teachings & Being Together is a series of creative workshops led by Indigenous and settler artists, presented by Scadding Court Community Centre and Laboratory for Artistic Intelligence, with support from the Toronto Arts Council.
