Football-obsessed German rock trio Sportfreunde Stiller, formed in 1996 near Munich, consists of vocalist/guitarist Peter "Balboa" Brugger, bassist Rüdiger Linhof, and drummer Florian "Rakete" Weber. The group derived their name from their former soccer instructor Hans Stiller, adding "Sportfreunde" (German for "sports friends") when a rival band claimed the Stiller name. Their debut EP, Macht Doch Was Ihr Wollt, Ich Geh Jetzt, was released shortly after their formation, followed by Thonträger two years later.
