What is Ballroom? The Ballroom scene traces its roots back to 1960s Harlem in New York, founded by black and latinx trans women and drag artists who created a new safe space in response to racism within the white pageant scene. Ballroom is a place of love, unity, creativity and mutual respect. It welcomes everyone, regardless of gender, ethnicity, body, sex or status. Any form of racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, body shaming, or discrimination is not tolerated within the Ballroom scene.
