West African Dance with Live Drumming Workshop led by SYAKAD ARTS

Join SYAKAD ARTS for an engaging West African dance workshop featuring live drumming at the Dyckman Farmhouse Museum! This interactive session caters to all ages and skill levels, inviting you to explore the vibrant rhythms and movements of West Africa in a warm, community-focused environment.

Through guided instruction and exhilarating live percussion, participants will discover how dance serves as a powerful means of cultural expression, storytelling, and connection. This workshop is a joyful opportunity to move, learn, and celebrate together! 🎉

Sylvestre Akakpo Adzaku, a Togolese-American dancer, choreographer, and founder of SYAKAD ARTS in New York City, will lead the workshop. His work is affiliated with Weva Africa and the International Festival of Dance and Tourism (FDT) in Togo, fostering connections through dance and cultural exchange.

Mamoudou Konate Simbo is a master drummer from Burkina Faso, steeped in the rich traditions of West African rhythm and storytelling. Residing in New York City, he has collaborated with leading West African artists, bringing profound cultural knowledge and excitement to every performance.

KLIKA Sèdo Saturnin Gilbert, a Beninese percussionist trained in traditional rhythmic practices, has performed with esteemed artists and dance companies in Benin and internationally. He intertwines traditional rhythms with genres like jazz and Afrobeat, passionately sharing African musical culture with the world. 🎶
