29th Annual Wege Speaker Series with Audrey Peterman
Join us for an inspiring virtual presentation by Audrey Peterman, a prominent expert in environmental diversity! Audrey is the President and Co-founder of Earthwise Productions and an accomplished author, known for her impactful works including From My Jamaican Gully to the World and Back: The Environmental Journey of Audrey Wright Peterman.
Audrey's journey in environmental advocacy began back in 1995 when she and her husband embarked on a road trip across U.S. National Parks. They soon realized the concerning lack of diversity in both visitors and employees at these parks. This eye-opening experience fueled their commitment to ensuring that public lands are welcoming and accessible to everyone.
Her influential work within the National Park System has made a significant impact, including her role in guiding President Obama’s 2017 memorandum, which mandated that national parks actively engage with diverse and underserved communities.
With extensive service on the boards of numerous national conservation organizations, including the National Parks Conservation Association, Audrey has firmly established herself as a leader through initiatives like the Next100 Coalition. As an author, she has penned essential works such as Legacy on the Land and Our True Nature, both emphasizing the importance of nurturing our national heritage.
Her memoir, From My Jamaican Gully to the World and Back, beautifully narrates her transformative life from modest beginnings to a renowned environmental champion. It serves as a powerful call to action, proving that anyone can leave a lasting impact regardless of their background.
