ReSpell is thrilled to announce the International Conference titled 'Anthropology of Religion in Transition: Transreligiosity, Global Shifts and the Future in the Field,' taking place at the Department of Social Anthropology and History, University of the Aegean, Mytilene, Lesvos, Greece, on 15-16 May 2026.

Over recent decades, anthropologists have observed a growing trend where religious and spiritual practices transcend institutional and national borders. This evolution challenges us to revisit foundational aspects of the anthropology of religion—its methodologies, theoretical frameworks, and epistemological commitments.

The conference, organized by the research initiative Religion, Spirituality and Well-being, aims to reimagine the anthropology of religion in light of the contemporary transformations defining our world. We'll explore how individuals navigate overlapping realms of the religious, spiritual, and secular, and how these intersections reshape our understanding of belief, identity, and the sacred.

🔍 We encourage ethnographic and theoretical contributions that address the challenges faced by anthropologists in the field. Key discussions will revolve around:

• New ethnographies reflecting the future of the anthropology of religion
• Theoretical insights on researching religious fluidity and hybridity
• The interplay between the anthropology of religion and other disciplines (medical, political, historical, etc.)
• Institutional reflections on the field's future

📄 Paper proposals (up to 250 words) and session proposals (up to 4 papers) are welcome.
