The Black Diamond Disaster Wreath Laying & Concert

Join us at St. Clement’s Island Museum for a poignant wreath-laying ceremony honoring a forgotten chapter of the American Civil War—the Black Diamond Disaster. On April 23, 1865, a tragic collision between the barge Black Diamond and the steamer Massachusetts claimed the lives of eighty-seven people in the Potomac River.

Event Schedule:

• Wreath Laying: 14:00 - Gather at the waterfront to pay respects.
• Concert & Reception: 14:30 - Enjoy a performance by the 8th Green Machine (GM) Regiment Band, renowned for their renditions of 19th-century brass music using authentic instruments! 🎺🎶
• Book Signings: Meet Karen Stone, author of Shipwreck on the Potomac: Disaster in Pursuit of Lincoln's Killer, during the reception. 📚
