Join us for an engaging discussion on Karl Popper's pivotal work, Conjectures and Refutations! 🧠✨

Karl Popper (1902-1994) was an influential Austrian philosopher renowned for his insights in the philosophy of science and political thought. In this collection of lectures and articles, Popper propounds his belief that science evolves through a series of conjectures—educated guesses striving to explain current evidence—and refutations—critical tests that expose the flaws in our existing models.

Challenging the Logical Positivists, who believed that scientific truths could be verified through experimentation, Popper asserts that conjectures can never be conclusively proven true. Nevertheless, he champions rationality and the importance of remaining receptive to correcting our errors.

Throughout this six-week exploration, we will delve into Conjectures and Refutations! For our third week, we’ll focus on pages 183-271, covering chapters:

  • 🌌 5. Back to the Presocratics
  • 📖 6. A Note on Berkeley as Precursor to Mach and Einstein
  • 🧩 7. Kant's Critique and Cosmology
  • 🔍 8. On the Status of Science and Metaphysics

Be sure to read the specified excerpts prior to our in-person meeting for a richer discussion! I'm using this version: Conjectures and Refutations. A free copy of the text is available here.

For any questions, feel free to reach out via message or post on meetup! 😊

Best,
Brian
