Conjuring #2 features a live improvisation by Laura Groves, Hinako Omori, Maxwell Sterling and Kenichi Iwasa.

Conjuring is a monthly live music event series curated by Studio Njoku, and presented by Club Cheek.

Conjuring brings together leading experimental musicians for live, collaborative, improvised performances. The project foregrounds musical dialogue, community building and spiritual expression.

Each edition features a unique lineup of guest musicians performing a one-time live improvisation around a central motif developed by Tony Njoku.

Hinako Omori is a Japanese composer, musician and producer. Her music offers immersive sonic architectures and environments in which to process and access emotional states. Hers is music with spirit and awareness; it unfurls in the mind’s eye, inviting the listener to turn inwards. She has supported William Basinski, Ichiko Aoba, Anna von Hausswolff, L’Rain, Anna Meredith and Beth Orton, touring and collaborating with artists including Kae Tempes, and Shabaka.

Laura Groves is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, exploring themes of inner-worlds, connection, pattern, memory, healing and environments, mixing songwriting and experimental synthesised sound, textural electronic layering and a passion for home recording. Her past collaborators include Actress, Richard Russell’s Everything is Recorded project, Sampha, Joviale, Fabiana Palladino, Samantha Morton and Darkstar.

Maxwell Sterling is a composer, producer, and double bassist. Originally from Manchester, he studied jazz composition and double bass at Leeds College of Music and film scoring at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). As a solo artist, Maxwell has developed a distinct sound working with double bass and modular synthesisers, combining his interest in improvisatory jazz frameworks, orchestral music and electronic sounds.

Kenichi Iwasa is a London based improviser and multidisciplinary artist from Japan. Also known for his Krautrock Karaoke night, he has collaborated with visual artists and musicians such as Beatrice Dillon, Maxwell Sterling and Linder Sterling. He has recorded and collaborated with Neneh Cherry, David Ornette Cherry, Tyson, Denardo Coleman, Rebecca Salvador, Alexis Taylor, Visio, Heith, Finley Clark, Lutto Lento, and Blood Music.
