About the Book:
Flashlight unravels the haunting mystery of a father's disappearance, navigating through time, countries, and memories. Louisa, along with her father, embarks on a fateful walk on the beach one night, flashlight in hand. Her father, unable to swim, is soon declared missing after Louisa is found on the shore, barely alive at just ten years old.
This compelling narrative shifts perspectives, exploring the aftermath of a family's tragedy. Louisa is caught between her estranged parents: her Korean father, Serk, who distanced himself from his own family for a life in postwar Pyongyang, and her American mother, Anne, who has her own troubled past. Adding to the complexity is Tobias, Anne’s illegitimate son whose return influences their lives in unexpected ways.
What truly happened to Louisa’s father? Why did he bring his family to Japan right before his vanishing act? This novel challenges us to understand how we can find love and meaning in our lives amidst the undiscernible shadows.
