Minimal Music Festival 2026 - Julianna Barwick + Mary Lattimore

Can you hear the intimacy of deep friendship? You might think so when listening to the wondrous album Tragic Magic by Julianna Barwick and Mary Lattimore. The two American musicians have known each other for a long time and each has an impressive track record in classical music, indie pop, and ambient. With Lattimore’s harp and Barwick’s angelic vocals set in a bed of subtle synths, they create an atmosphere you could call dreamy and melancholic — or tragically magical.

Barwick and Lattimore recorded their first joint album at the Philharmonie in Paris. Lattimore played various historic harps from the Musée de la Musique, while Barwick used iconic synthesizers such as the Prophet-5. The track “Melted Moon” was written about the wildfires that ravaged their home city of Los Angeles in early 2025, just before they left for Paris. In addition to original work, Tragic Magic includes a piece Roger Eno wrote especially for them and a cover of Vangelis’s “Rachel’s Song,” known from the Blade Runner soundtrack.
