Join us for a captivating discussion as part of Nermin Duraković’s exhibition "Dialogue with the City"!

In our upcoming session, "NAM at ANA", we are thrilled to welcome:

• Zlatko Jovanović - a cultural historian from the University of Copenhagen.
• Merima Dizdarević - a multifaceted author and performance artist from HDK-Valand, University of Gothenburg.

Together, they will delve into the pivotal role of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) as seen through the lens of former Yugoslavia. ✊

Yugoslavia's unique brand of socialism included workers' self-management and played a significant role in global leftist thought during the Cold War. This conversation will highlight how Yugoslavia influenced African decolonization and infrastructural development through the NAM, including the emergence of Europe’s first African museum that aimed to celebrate Africa's narratives from an African viewpoint. 🌍

Expect engaging presentations followed by an open conversation and shared reflections. The discussions will be held in English. 📢

Bios:

• Zlatko Jovanović specializes in the interplay of politics, culture, and the everyday lives of people in socialist Yugoslavia, with insights that connect local developments to global trends. He authored A Cultural History of the 1984 Winter Olympics, among many other contributions.

• Merima Dizdarević is an accomplished poet and performance artist, currently crafting a significant piece for the Swedish Paletten Art Journal that reflects on Aimé Césaire’s influential work, Cahier D'un Retour Au Pays Natal.

Nermin Duraković, the visual artist behind this profound exhibition, has spent years addressing migration politics and societal structures through his art. 🎨
