Parotia: The Final Dance

In a landscape dominated by harder electronic sounds, Parotia aims to make space for a new sound in Utrecht’s nightlife. For this final edition at EKKO, IRMA and Ajuma will take over the decks.

Utrecht-based Ajuma, also the founder of Parotia, is a DJ who takes you on a musical journey around the world. In recent years she has played at festivals such as Lowlands and Best Kept Secret, and she is also a familiar face at EKKO. Three years ago, she played the very first track at Parotia. It is nothing less than fitting that she will also play the final one.

Warm sounds and funky percussion form the foundation of the sound of Utrecht-based DJ IRMA. She has been part of the team behind Parotia since day one and, at this final edition at EKKO, she will make sure the floor is warmed up one last time with her feeling for rhythm and grooves.

About Parotia: Parotia, named after the mating dance of the New Guinean bird-of-paradise, wants to bring people back to dancing with each other through softer and warmer sounds. A step away from individualism, and a leap towards one another. A colorful blend where house, disco, Latin, afro, and boogie, among many others, will be heard.
