Despite its title, Ratboys’ latest album, Singin’ to an Empty Chair, is a rich exploration of connection and emotion, crafted by vocalist Julia Steiner. This album represents a heartfelt dialogue, showcasing 11 tracks that blend twangy power-pop with emotional depth. The band, originally from Chicago, returns with a sound that’s both effervescent and introspective, having worked with acclaimed producers including Chris Walla and Steve Albini.

As their first album since Steiner began therapy, Singin’ to an Empty Chair captures the tension between vulnerability and hope, with songs ranging from buoyant anthems to poignant ballads.
