Hailing from the Bronx, this remarkable vocalist discovered her passion for classic R&B during her childhood and honed her skills in the gospel choir at her church. With a rich musical lineage, including her grandparents from the Philadelphia gospel group the Savettes and her father, musician Antonio McLendon, Joy’s talent couldn't be contained.

Although she only embraced jazz during her college years at SUNY Purchase, she quickly made her mark by winning the prestigious 2019 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition. Audiences and critics have praised her as a masterful interpreter of jazz standards, with her music echoing the brilliance of icons like Sarah Vaughan and Betty Carter.

🌟 Acclaimed Album Success
Her self-titled debut in 2021 was followed by the breakout album Linger Awhile, which not only won her a Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album but also earned her the coveted title of Best New Artist. Her 2025 release, Portrait, co-produced with Grammy winner Brian Lynch, has already brought home an NAACP Image Award for Best Jazz Album!
