Join us for an unforgettable evening as we spotlight Vernon Dalhart: The First Country Music Star at The Jackson Theatre on April 17, starting at 19:00! 🌟
This special event, in collaboration with the International Storytelling Center, honors one of the 1920s and 1930s most influential recording artists. Vernon Dalhart was the trailblazer who recorded the very first million-selling country hit with his legendary tracks, “The Wreck of the Old ’97” and “The Prisoner’s Song”, which are both celebrated in the Grammy Hall of Fame. 🎤
Dalhart's impressive legacy includes over 4,000 recordings made between 1916 and 1939, influencing numerous iconic artists like Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, and Willie Nelson. 🙌
Music historian Dr. Ted Olson will present insights from five years of research on Dalhart's diverse career and discuss why his significant contributions have faded over time. 🎓
Adding to the experience, Jack Hinshelwood, an award-winning multi-instrumentalist and singer, will provide a live soundtrack with renditions of Dalhart's timeless classics such as:
- “Home on the Range”
- “Jesse James”
- “The Big Rock Candy Mountains”
- And many more! 🎸
Don't miss this chance to celebrate the roots of country music through storytelling and song!
Ticket Pricing:
- $15 if purchased in advance
- $20 on the day of the show
