🎭 Join Us for an Inspiring Evening!
Works & Process proudly presents a special preview of new works from the talented playwrights Craig Lucas and Jake Brasch on Monday, April 20, 2026, at 19:00. This event takes place at the iconic Peter B. Lewis Theater, located at 1071 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY, 10128.
🎟️ Tickets start at just $25 and can be purchased here.
✨ The Terrence McNally Recovery Commissions award two annual $10,000 commissions for new plays—one for an emerging playwright and one for an established artist, both identifying as being in recovery from substance use conditions. The selected playwrights not only receive financial support but also benefit from a year-long mentorship process facilitated by the Recovery Arts Project, which includes a writing retreat and events such as:
- A retreat at Provincetown Theater from March 17-21
- A residency at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center in Waterford, Connecticut from April 14-18
🏆 The evening culminates in a Works & Process showing on April 20, where the audience will have the opportunity to engage with selected scenes from both new works and participate in a discussion moderated by Sean Daniels, Executive Director of the Recovery Arts Project. They'll explore the playwrights' artistic processes, their journeys of recovery, and the healing power of storytelling.
🍷 Join us afterwards for a reception in the museum rotunda, allowing for further dialogue and connection among attendees.
💖 This initiative is named in honor of Terrence McNally, who began his recovery journey during a pivotal moment at Stephen Sondheim’s birthday celebration, with encouragement from Angela Lansbury—a story he later shared in the documentary Every Act of Life, highlighting the importance of community support.
🌟 Featured playwrights include Jake Brasch, marking their Off-Broadway debut with The Reservoir at the Atlantic Theater Company, and Craig Lucas, an Obie Award winner and Pulitzer Prize finalist.
🎨 This project is generously supported by the Terrence McNally Foundation and the Recovery Arts Project, aiming to reshape the national narrative surrounding addiction and recovery through the transformative power of the arts.
🌍 Works & Process continues to amplify the creative process by producing over 25 residencies annually, supporting countless artists and fostering environments where creativity can flourish.
