Om evenemanget
🌍 Organised by the Bydgoszcz District Museum, this engaging exhibition dives into the rich multicultural heritage of inter-war Bydgoszcz through an interactive experience.
The journey begins at the Old Market Square and meanders through historic sites including Mostowa Street, Teatralny Square, Gdańska Street, and reaching the prominent Wolności Square. Attendees will explore the city’s essential symbols, captivating architecture, intriguing locales, and the daily lives of the people who once inhabited them. The narrative is profoundly enhanced by the insights of Jerzy Sulima-Kamiński, author of The Queen Jadwiga Bridge, whose literary excerpts guide visitors through various locations along this historical route.
The exhibition unfolds in two thematic parts, each corresponding to the layout of the exhibit rooms. The first part offers a broad overview of Bydgoszcz's history, its governmental structure, trade, crafts, and the diverse religious landscape punctuated by city symbols. The second section delves deeper into monuments representative of the inter-war era, showcasing life in Bydgoszcz. Here, visitors will encounter two central tables that act as a mock-up, multimedia guide, and display for photographs alongside various historical artifacts.
Surrounding showcases highlight items representing material culture, alongside iconographic and cartographic resources, documents, posters, and advertisements. The opening area discusses the Old Market Square, Mostowa Street, and the vital role of the Brda river in commerce, water transport, and recreation within Bydgoszcz’s social fabric. The adjacent Theatre Square served as a cultural hub, highlighting its significance in public transport and the arts.
Conversely, the second section hones in on the evolution of Gdańska Street and Plac Wolności, detailing its commercial significance, entertainment venues like hotels and cafes, and the celebrations tied to key events in the city. Further exploration reveals Bydgoszcz's industrial landscape and urban development—integrating everyday experiences of the city's inhabitants.
Noteworthy is the discussion around Polish-German interactions, framed by the Bismarck Tower's fate. The exhibition culminates at the City Museum, a cherished institution from the inter-war period. Visitors will be treated to "windows of memory"—multimedia displays designed to deepen the historical narrative presented throughout the exhibition.
