From its inception on January 1, 1959, as an independent institution, Maria dedicated her life to the creation of a unique space that showcases the rich tapestry of culture and history. After relocating from Vilnius in 1946, she aspired to establish not only a museum but also an open-air exhibit.

As the museum's director until her retirement in 1972, her commitment never wavered, maintaining strong ties with the institution until her passing. Her testamentary wish to donate scientific materials and essentials for a permanent exhibition highlights her dedication to cultural intersection and personal biography.

In June 2008, on the 110th anniversary of her birth, a permanent exhibition honoring her as the museum's founder was unveiled, featuring a cozy room reminiscent of her own living space at 15 Krasinsky St. 🎹 Here, visitors can admire the piano, unique furniture, textiles, paintings, and an array of cherished keepsakes.
